Have you had a “Russian Manicure” Yet?

TikTok just loves a beauty trend, and they especially love a manicure trend. The one that’s causing quite a stir in the beauty community lately is one that has been around for quite some time but only spoken about in hushed tones.

As Hypebae reports, the (psst!) “Russian Manicure” has officially entered the chat. Coming in at a whopping 1 Billion views, #RussianManicures is proof that this trend has been making its rounds.

What is a “Russian Manicure?”

The Russian manicure, frequently referred to as a ‘dry manicure,’ is a nail care technique that significantly emphasizes cuticle maintenance. It’s a process that typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, making it a commitment of time but one that many find worth the investment for its results.

During a “Russian Manicure,” the nail technician uses an electric filer during the procedure, in order to reveal and subsequently eliminate the eponychium. For those unfamiliar with the term eponychium, it is the thickened skin layer found at the base of both fingernails and toenails. So yeah, they file off your cuticles.

What makes the “Russian Manicure” So Controversial?

There’s often a back and forth with any manicure when cutting (or in this case, eliminating) the cuticle comes into play. The “Russian Manicure” does make it easier for bacteria to enter the body, causing infection, but this risk is only an issue when done with tools that haven’t been sterilized.

Is The “Russian Manicure” Dangerous?

Like most trends, you must research before trying them out. The ‘Russian Manicure” trend only becomes dangerous when done by the wrong/unskilled hands, so do your homework and find a qualified nail tech, or just don’t do it.

How Long Does A “Russian Manicure” Last?

What makes this nail trend so popular is its longevity. A ‘Russian Manicure” can last up to a month, so for those of you who rarely have the time and don’t like spending a wad of cash every week, this Mani may be right up your alley.

But shhh, you didn’t hear it from me.
