In a candid conversation with Rolling Stone, Geddy Lee, the iconic frontman of Rush, discussed the possibilities and challenges of reuniting with bandmate Alex Lifeson for future tours. This comes after the 2020 passing of their legendary drummer, Neil Peart.
Lee expressed concerns about using the name ‘Rush’ for any potential new ventures, citing a mix of respect for their shared history and Peart’s irreplaceable role. He humorously suggested alternatives like ‘Rash,’ although quickly dismissing the idea of ‘Lee and Lifeson Play the Songs of Rush’ as too reminiscent of an “old-fart Eighties band.”
The prospect of touring seems uncertain, especially considering Lifeson’s mixed feelings about past tours. Lee revealed that Lifeson was not entirely content during their last few tours, finding the process of being away and touring challenging.
However, fans have a reason to be hopeful. Geddy Lee is open to creating new music with Lifeson. Both artists have expressed a desire to collaborate again, signaling that while Rush as a band may have concluded its journey, their musical partnership and creativity continue to thrive. As Lee’s memoir, ‘My Effin’ Life,’ hits shelves, the future holds intriguing possibilities for this dynamic duo of rock.
