Cardi B Criticizes NYC’s Budget Cuts Amid Migrant Crisis

Rapper Cardi B, a Bronx native, has voiced her frustration over New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ decision to implement budget cuts across various departments due to the city’s migrant crisis. The Grammy-winning artist took to social media to express her concerns, particularly about cuts in education, sanitation, and police departments.

Cardi B’s dismay comes after Adams announced a $110.5 billion budget, necessitated by the city spending $1.45 billion on the migrant crisis. The rapper, known for her philanthropy in her hometown, including funding funerals for Bronx fire victims, questioned the impact of these cuts on local communities, including her family and friends.

The budget reductions include a significant decrease in NYPD officers, a $1 billion reduction in education over two years, and delays in waste management and pre-K programs. Public libraries also face service cutbacks.

Cardi B emphasized the potential rise in crime and sanitation issues due to the cuts. The City Council’s progressive caucus and police union have also criticized the budget cuts, warning of adverse effects on the city’s recovery and public safety.

This backlash highlights the complex challenges faced by urban centers in managing fiscal responsibilities amid unprecedented crises.
