Kiko Loureiro Extends Leave from Megadeth’s Tour for Family Time

Kiko Loureiro, renowned guitarist for Megadeth, has announced an extension to his leave from the band’s live performances. Initially stepping away in September to spend time with his family in Finland, Loureiro has now decided to prolong his hiatus, considering the band’s intensive touring schedule planned for 2024.

In a heartfelt social media post, Loureiro expressed his gratitude for the incredible journey with Megadeth. His tenure included unforgettable tours, a Grammy Award for ‘Dystopia’, a nomination, and accolades for ‘The Sick, The Dying, And The Dead’. He highlighted the privilege of playing alongside guitar legend Dave Mustaine, James LoMenzo, and Dirk Verbeuren, and the phenomenal crew.

Loureiro’s decision was made after careful consideration and discussions with Mustaine and the band’s management. He emphasized his intent not to impede the band’s plans or the efforts of those involved in the tour.

Megadeth responded by bringing in Teemu Mäntysaari, known for his work with Wintersun and Smackbound, to cover for Loureiro during his absence. Despite Mustaine’s reputation for drama, this transition appears to be handled gracefully, ensuring that the band remains in capable hands. Loureiro’s departure, albeit temporary or permanent, is a significant moment for both him and the band’s fans worldwide.
