Two years after the Astroworld Festival tragedy, Travis Scott opened up about the devastating impact of the event in an interview with GQ. On November 5, 2021, a crowd crush at his concert in Houston, Texas, led to 10 fatalities and thousands of injuries, leaving an indelible mark on the rapper.
Scott, 32, shared his profound grief and love for his fans, stating, “Those fans were like my family.” The incident profoundly affected his creative process for his new album ‘Utopia’, with Scott taking several months to return to music. He described this period as “overly devastating” and the process of making music as “therapeutic.”
In his song “My Eyes,” Scott reflects on the Houston events, conveying his emotional struggles and misunderstandings. He emphasized the song’s personal significance, calling it “one of my favorite songs on the album.”
Despite facing potential criminal charges, a Texas grand jury cleared Scott of responsibility in June 2023. His attorney affirmed Scott’s innocence, emphasizing the need for improved safety measures at large events to prevent similar tragedies.
