Tommy Hilfiger has pulled back the curtain on a new TOMMY x KEITH HARING capsule collection, championing the designer and the late artist’s shared passion for democratizing fashion and art in 1980s New York.
As Hypebeast reports, the collection merges the two fields, which includes 30 pieces spanning menswear, womenswear and novelties decorated with Haring’s iconic illustrations. Across the range, preppy silhouettes receive relaxed cuts and garment-dyed, sun-bleached and washed-up treatments. Among them, a wool varsity jacket dons dancing dog badges on its leather sleeves and a chenille heart face on its chest, while an American fit denim jacket features patchwork of the artist’s classic dancing figures.
Elsewhere, knits, jumpers and hoodies source inspiration from quintessential Americana, flaunting icons, including the “radiant baby,” which represents innocence and the youth’s potential. Hook-up tops and shorts front graphic invitations to Haring’s exhibition at Westbeth Paint’s Space in 1991, while T-shirts host nine Polaroids of Haring taken at different points throughout his career.
“Keith Haring is a New York icon and represents the city’s creative spirit,” said Hilfiger. “We shared commitment to inclusivity, self-expression and spreading optimism. This collection channels positivity and brings Keith’s unmistakable energy to modern-day prep.”
Outside of Haring’s legacy, the collection celebrates a new exhibition, titled Art Is For Everybody, which opened at The Broad museum in Los Angeles on May 27. The showcase, which will house more than 120 works from Haring’s career, will remain on view through October 28.
The TOMMY JEAN x Keith Haring collection is now available to shop in stores and on Tommy Hilfiger’s website.
