On Friday, January 20th, Metallica released a second single off of their 11th studio album, 72 Seasons, that is set for release on April 14th via Blackened Recordings. Frontman for the band, James Hetfield wrote in a statement, “Screaming Suicide” addresses the “taboo word of suicide,”
Hetfield went on to say that, “The intention is to communicate about the darkness we feel inside, It’s ridiculous to think we should deny that we have these thoughts. At one point or another I believe most people have thought about it. To face it is to speak the unspoken. If it’s a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone.”
The track itself was released along with a black and white music video that was directed by Tim Saccenti. The clip’s caption on YouTube links to several suicide prevention agencies across the globe.
Metallica originally previewed the album in November with the first single “Lux Æterna,” that debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. Meanwhile, they will be launching their world tour to support the album 72 Reasons in late April.
