The Smile is releasing a new live album titled, The Smile at Montreux Jazz Festival July 2022, that will be sold as a digital only release on December 14th. The album includes seven tracks from the band’s debut LP A Light for Attracting Attention, that were all recorded live at the annual festival in Switzerland. Since the event’s 1967 creation, the event has brought in some massive names in music, however, this isn’t the first time the Smile’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have been able to perform at the music festival. Back in 2003, they performed with their other band Radiohead for a 24 song set.
On top of the live album, a film of their set that included Radiohead songs, released on Tuesday on Smile’s YouTube page at 3 p.m. EST and remained for just 48 hours. The film has the first ever live performance of a new track called “Bending Hectic” that was written earlier the same day.
The Smile is on a tour of the U.S. right now an dis set to finish with a pair of shows in Los Angeles on December 21st and 22nd. They also recorded a Tiny Desk episode for NPR back in November that is going to broadcast on January third on NPR’s YouTube channel.
