Lucky Daye is becoming more and more popular amongst Recording Academy Members, as he gathered five nominations at the 65th Grammy Awards, making his career total now at 11. Lucky Daye is nominated in the categories of Album of the Year twice, Best R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Album.
Daye’s first Album of the Year nomination comes from co-writing Mary J. Blige’s 15th studio album. Which also is the song time that Daye has been nominated for Best R&B Song. On top of that, Daye co-wrote Beyoncé’s “Alien Superstar,” giving him a second Album of the Year nomination. Whereas, his album Candydrip, is his second nomination in the Best R&B Album category, with his debut album, Painted, being in the field at the 2020 Grammy Awards. It is also his second time being nominated for Best R&B Performance, with “Over.”
When speaking about the album that the track “Over,” came off of Daye said, “I didn’t wanna sound like everybody else. I knew everybody was gonna try to go 808s, bop tempos and all this other stuff. I knew I could do that at any time. What’s important to me is making my own body of work that I can invite people into. I want people to know [my projects are] gonna be something to wait for. You might love it, you might hate it, but it’s not gonna be what you thought it was.”
In other news, Daye has released Candydrip on double vinyl and is set to release a deluxe version of his second album on December 9th. The Grammy Awards for 2023 will air on February fifth, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT on CBS.
