Free agent first baseman Anthony Rizzo has agreed to a two-year, $34 million dollar deal that includes a club option for 2025 at $17 million with the New York Yankees. Rizzo had previously declined a $16 million dollar player option for 2023 and also the qualifying offer of one year, $19.65 million that the Yankees had offered him.
Rizzo had previously spent 10 years with the Chicago Cubs, then a brief appearance in San Diego, before getting traded to the Yankees at the end of the 2021 trade deadline. He returned on a one year deal with the Yankees before 2022 and accomplished .224/.338/.480 (131 OPS+) with 21 doubles, 32 homers, 75 RBI, 77 runs and 2.3 WAR. The main thing for the Yankees is to bring back Aaron Judge, however, having Rizzo around does bring a sigh of relief to the front office for them.
