Mariners’ Julio Rodríguez Was Named 2022 AL Rookie of the Year

The winner of the 2022 Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year has been announced as the Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodríguez by the MLB on Monday night. Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman finished in second and Cleveland Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan came in third.

Rodríguez, got off to a slow start, but got over it with a 2 for 4 game on April 22nd, which led to 24 doubles, three triples, 28 home runs, 73 RBI, 80 runs and 21 stolen bases in his last 120 games. His ability to get 28 homers and steal 25 bases, made him the third rookie in history to go 25-25 and the fastest ever with just 125 games to do so.

The rest of the BBWAA awards are going out this week, with the Manager of the Year award on Tuesday, Cy Young honors on Wednesday and MVP on Thursday.
