No team in the NFL trades draft picks more often than the Los Angeles Rams, and apparently they attempted to trade two of them away during the past few weeks. The rams made a massive trade offer to Panthers defensive end Brian Burns and the deal would have included two first round picks, however, it never happened due to Carolina shooting down the deal. The Rams offered their 2024 and 2025 first round picks, and apparently were even willing to go beyond that.
It seems that the Rams made the offer sometime in the past few weeks, on October 23rd it was reported that the Panthers had turned down an offer for Burns. The Rams were wanting to place Burns with their All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald in order to create one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL. Burns was the 16th overall pick in the 2019 draft and has been almost unstoppable during his first three plus season in the NFL. Burns had nine sack in each of his past two seasons and also was able to obtain 7.5 sacks as a rookie. Burns was also a Pro Bowler last year.
Last year, the Rams acquired Von Miller from the Broncos off of the NFL trade deadline. Miller ended up being a defensive piece that helped them win a Super Bowl. Miller left in free agency after the 2021 season and his pass rushing presence has been missed. The Rams have only had 15 sacks so far this season, and ranks in the bottom half of the NFL throughout eight weeks. If the Rams had secured the trade for Burns they would have continued their run of giving away their first round draft picks. The Rams have not had a first round draft pick since back in 2016, when they drafted Jared Goff.
