Tank’s latest single, “Slow” that featured J. Valentine has risen to number one on R&B radio, dethroning “Make Me Say It Again, Girl” by The Isley Brothers and Beyoncé. Marking the third consecutive single from his final album, R&B Money, to reach the mark. R&B Money is also Tank’s first album to produce more than two number one singles and over two top ten singles.
The album’s lead single, “Can’t Let It Show,” samples Kate Bush, topped R&B radio in June of 2021. During the week of July third, 2021, it rose to the pole position on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart and remained there for two weeks. After that, “I Deserve,” which reimagines his previous 2001 hit “Maybe I Deserve,” gained the number one title at R&B radio back in March. The same month, it became his sixth chart topping track on the Adult R&B list.
R&B Money originally arrived on August 19th and had features from names such as Alex Isley, Vedo and Rotimi and others. It is supposed to be his farewell LP after ten albums, with many of them recently being added to streaming platforms by Blackground Records 2.0. In a press statement Tank shared that, “I wanted this album to pay homage to my influences and my evolution as an artist, and I think that’s what this final album represents,”
Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye, Keith Sweat and Al Green were amongst the inspirations mentioned with his quote. Tank recently gained a Best R&B/Soul Male Artist nod at the 2022 Soul Train Awards. On November 11th, Tank is set to perform at the GCC HBCU Fest at Mobile Civic Center Arena in Mobile, Alabama. The Isley Brothers will also take the stage.
