Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart Marks Biggest Week for an Album in 7 Years

Taylor Swift has achieved her 11th number one album on Billboard 200 chart dated for November fifth, as Midnights arrives with the biggest week for an album in almost seven years. It debuted with 1.578 million equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending October 27th, according to Luminate. The last album to have a larger week was the debut of Adele’s 25, with 3.482 million units for the December 12th, 2015 dated chart.

Midnights released on October 21st after it was announced two months prior by Swift at the MYV Video Music Awards on August 28th. However, no music from the album was released until it dropped on October 21st, when she issued the music video for Midnights’ first single, “Anti-Hero.” Three hours after the albums release Swift put out a deluxe version of the album, the 3am edition with seven bonus tracks. Swift is now tied with Barbara Streisand for the most number one albums amongst women. She is also the sixth act with over 10 number one albums on the Billboard 200 since the chart began regularly publishing on a weekly basis in 1956.

Midnights’ 1.578 equivalent album units earned are compromised of 1.140 million, SEA units compromise 419,000 and TEA units made-up 19,000. The album is the third largest streaming week for an album, by total on demand official streams. Swift’s biggest streaming week previously was tallied by the first week of Red, with 303.23 million in 2021.
