According to billboard.com, Rihanna lit up the internet when she announced her return to music. Letting fans know that her new single, “Lift Me Up” from the upcoming Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Friday, October 28th. The upcoming song was written by Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and Panther director Ryan Coogler as a tribute to the late Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 at age 43. The track will release on Rihanna’s Westbury Road Label in partnership with Roc Nation/Def Jam Recordings/Hollywood Records.
Tems stated that, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them, Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”
Rihanna hasn’t released an album since Anti was released six years ago, and spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Her hiatus from live shows will also end on February 12th, 2023 when she headlines the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
