Girl Scouts Receive $84.5 Million Donation from MacKenzie Scott

According to prnewswire.com, Girl Scouts of the USA recently announced an $84.5 million donation they received from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The donation was given to GUSA and 29 local councils that were selected by Ms. Scott. It will help to accelerate GSUSA’s initiatives that give girls the tools to become the next generation of powerful women leaders. The donation is the largest from a single person in the organization’s history and will build on GSUSA’s vision to support all Girl Scouts as they chase their dreams and turn compassion into action in their communities.

According to a statement made by Sofia Chang the Girl Scouts of the USA CEO, “We are so appreciative of MacKenzie Scott’s gift to Girl Scouts. This is a great accelerator for our ongoing efforts to help girls cultivate the skills and connections needed to lead in their own communities and globally, The support from all our donors, including this generous donation from Ms. Scott, is critical in delivering on our work of reimagination and transformation. We’re excited to prove how Ms. Scott’s investment in girls will change the world—because when one girl succeeds, we all succeed.”

Girls represent the world’s largest source of untapped talent and investing in them will produce returns to be seen in economic development, social progress, and public health. Prior to Ms. Scott’s donation, less than two percent of annual giving benefited girl and women centric organizations. Her donation will ensure the GSUSA’s commitment to champion all Girl Scouts as they continue to take action and create long-term impact. The GSUSA has 111 councils nationwide, with a presence in every zip code. Every investment helps enables Girl Scouts to harness leadership skills and ensure a future that is inclusive, empathetic, united, and equitable.
