According to usnews.com, veteran closer Craig Kimbrel was left off of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster for their National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres. Kimbrel got demoted from his closer role two weeks ago after struggling through the season as the replacement for Kenley Jansen who signed with Atlanta in the offseason. Kimbrel is an eight time All Star who leads active pitchers in saves with 394. Kimbrel was 6-7 and had 22 saves in his first season in Los Angeles, in his final three appearances he didn’t allow a single run or hit.
The dodgers still have plenty of depth when it comes to pitchers with 13 on their roster, with Dustin May and Blake Treinen amongst the 13. May had six starts after his return from having Tommy John surgery prior to going on the 15 day injured list on September 24th with lower back tightness. He made a rather quick recovery after taking a brief break from pitching.
Treinen has also been attempting to recover from a right shoulder problem. He has only played in five games so far this season and an appearance in the NLDS would be his first time in a major league game since September fifth.
