According to nbclosangeles.com, dozens of girls got to see what it is like to be a member of the LA Fire Department. The LA Fire Department hosted its 8th girls camp, where girls had their chance to climb as well as use aerial ladders, and search and rescue training. A LAFD Girls Camp attendee Kaya Cisneros said that, “It’s been really fun. It’s been a great opportunity, I love helping people. I love helping the community.” Attendees were between the ages of 14 and 18 and got a chance to learn how to use professional fire equipment during the two day course.
Another participant, Grace Boaziz stated that, “You just like feel empowered and you’re with a bunch of people who are just like you and you’re learning and pushing each other together, I would want to do something in like helping people and something in service, so this opens my doors to many more options.”
Chief Kris Larson also said that, “You have the ability to do whatever you want. Some of these girls might chose to be firefighters, some might be scientists or cancer researchers, We don’t know, but limitless.” The weekend was a great opportunity for girls to build their confidence and determination.
