Rose Bowl Attendance at All Time Low at First Game for UCLA, Since Making Announcement of Move to Big 10

According to cbssports.com, UCLA football recently set a program low for single-game attendance at the Rose Bowl for their 45-17 win over Bowling Green in Week 1, where only 27,143 fans bought tickets for the game. The ticket count was the lowest it has been in almost 30 years. The previous low was for the Bruins at the Rose Bowl game of November 7th, 1992, where 32,513 fans attended for a 26-14 win over Oregon State. The attendance for the recent UCLA game was about 5,000 fans less than the previously mentioned game. Attendance is also typically dictated by the amount of tickets purchased, not necessarily the amount of fans actually in attendance, meaning less fans were actually there then reported. After a slow start, the Bruins achieved 38 unanswered points to crush the Falcons, with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson putting up 298 passing yards, 87 yards rushing, and four touchdowns in the victory. Running back Zach Charbonnet also added 111 yards in rushing and a touchdown. The Bruins are in the midst of their best season since 2015, going 8-4 in 2021 and entering the Top 25 in Chip Kelly’s fourth season. The low attendance comes only months after the Bruins announced their plans to leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten in 2024. UCLA fans have to get used to facing Midwestern opponents in Los Angeles weather over the course of the next few years.
