Serena Williams Shocks With Upset Win at U.S. Open

According to sports.yahoo.com, through an intense, emotional, and improbable performance on Wednesday, Serena Williams was able to defeat Anett Kontaveit, in order to advance to the third round of the U.S. Open. According to Williams, this will be the last competitive tournament of her career. Williams will be turning 41 in September, and this match was just her sixth of the year. Williams was quoted in saying, “There’s still a little left in me, We’ll see.” Serena battled her way through the first set, with 20-point games and multiple breaks to win in a tie breaker. Kontaveit took over the second, dominating Serena. In the third set, Serena was able to dig deep and took control of the match, putting her opponent away. Up next for Williams will be Alja Tomljanovic, on Friday evening. Serena is quoted in saying, “I’m looking at it as a bonus, I don’t have anything to prove, I don’t have anything to win. I don’t have anything to lose. I haven’t played like this since 1998. I’m enjoying it.”
