According to prnewswire.com, as part of their wedding celebration, Sheryl Sandberg and Tom Bernthal made a gift of $1 million dollars to VOW for Girls in order to support their goal of ending child marriage. The large donation will allow VOW to expand their work and reach more at risk girls around the world in order to help them choose love on their own terms. Clay Dunn, CEO of VOW for Girls is quoted in saying, “We are thrilled by this generous gift from Sheryl and Tom that will be instrumental to advancing girls’ rights, It will allow us to support more girls to live lives of their choosing and we hope it will serve as an inspiration to other couples, showing how celebrations of love can also create meaningful impact. We are incredibly grateful for Sheryl and Tom’s support.” The couple also asked their guests to donate to the organization instead of giving them wedding gifts. The organization also couple with brands, and the wedding industry in an attempt to end the international child marriage crisis. Since the organization began, VOW has supported 175 organizations in order to impact over 260,000 girls directly benefiting and 1.6 million individuals impacted indirectly.
