Impressions Co-Founder Passes Away at The Age of 87

According to ultimateclassicrock.com, Sam Gooden, the co-founder of the soul group the Impressions, has passed away at the age of 87 years old , according to his daughter. He died in has native Chattanooga after a long and impactful career that ran its course over seven decades. No cause of death was given, however, Gooden has been in poor health for some time now. The Impressions originally found themselves in , the Roosters, a doo-wop group from Chicago that started in the fifties. Once the group changed, and Curtis Mayfield joined the group, they transformed into Jerry Butler and the Impressions, when they had their first hit titled, “For Your Previous Love.” Gooden didn’t retire until 2018, when Gooden decided he couldn’t tour any more, most likely due partially to his health. The group had many changes to their lineup, however, Gooden stayed until the end, which was ultimately when he retired in 2018. The group was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1988, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.
