Kyrie Irving Makes Use of Player Option to Remain With Nets

According to Yahoo Sports, the even time NBA All Star, Kyrie Irving, will exercise the $36.9 million dollar option on his contract for the 2022-23 NBA season. Irving is now able to either sign an extension with the Nets or if they can’t come to an agreement, he can instead become an unrestricted free agent next summer and the Nets could still trade him this season.  Back in 2019, Irving signed a four year $136.5 million dollar contract with the Nets. However, due to his feelings on the Covid Vaccine mandate, he missed much of the previous season due to not being allowed to play because of his refusal to get vaccinated. On top of that, he has faced several injuries including, shoulder, knee, hamstring, back, groin, ankle, and facial injuries since he signed in 2019. Irving has also taken several leaves of absence during his contract making him unreliable to his team. This makes future contract talks for Irving complicated, as his reliability is in question.
