In sports and in life Money holds a lot of value. That being said, according to CBS sports, the CEO of the USGA Mike Whan put out an announcement on Wednesday that their has been a huge boost to the purse for the 2022 U.S. Open. The purse has grown by $5 million dollars since last year, putting the grand total at $17.5 million dollars for golfers that were able to make it to the weekend cut. Making the payout this year the largest in the tournaments’ history. The contenders for the national championship aren’t the only ones to benefit as the players that were able to make their way to the top 20 before the week ended received more then $200,000 for their efforts. Overall, this is an impressive sum considering both the PGA Championship and the Masters paid out $15 million each this year, with $2.7 million awarded to the first place winners.
