On Tuesday night at Truist Park, William Contreras’ walk-off single gave the Braves a wild 6-5 win over the Phillies.
Ronald Acuña Jr. tied the game with a sacrifice fly, which was dropped for an error, and Dansby Swanson, who had started the bottom of the ninth with an opposite-field double off Nick Nelson, scored on the play. Acuña, who reached second on the error, then raced home with the winning run when Contreras’ game-ending single landed in center field.
“That will go down as one of the most unlikely ninth innings we’ve seen in a long time”.
Bryce Harper’s two-run homer off Kenley Jansen with one out in the top of the ninth gave the Phillies a 5-4 lead. The Braves had gained a 4-2 advantage during a two-run sixth that started with Matt Olson’s fifth homer of the season.
