Young Thug, Gunna Charged with Racketeering in Atlanta

Rappers Young Thug and Gunna, in addition to 26 others, have just been charged with racketeering in Atlanta, Georgia. An 88-page indictment was filed earlier this week.

Young Thug co-founded Young Slime Life, a gang that has, over time, committed murder, carjackings, and other accounts of violence. The Atlanta-native has repeatedly rapped about the gang activity, as well as made many related posts on social media. The indictment has quoted multiple music videos as evidence.

“It does not matter what your notoriety is, what your fame is, if you come to Fulton County, Georgia, and you commit crimes … you are going to become a target and a focus of this district attorney’s office, and we are going to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law,” Fulton county district attorney Fani Willis said at a news conference.

Both Young Thug and Gunna were charged of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Rico Act which seeks to “strengthen the legal tools in evidence gathering by establishing new penal prohibitions and providing enhanced sanctions and new remedies for dealing with the unlawful activities of those engaged in organized crime.”
