Just one day after Naomi Judd’s unexpected death, the beloved country duo, The Judds, were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame with an emotional, touching ceremony that honored not only their legacy but also the life of Naomi.
Wynonna, the other half of The Judds, and Ashley Judd, an actress, wrote on Twitter that they “lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness.”
“We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public,” their statement continued. “We are in unknown territory.”
Naomi, over the last few years, had been very open with her struggle with mental illness. In 2016, she shared in an interview that she had been diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. Later that year, she wrote a book detailing her experiences, titled “River of Time: My Descent into Depression and How I Emerged with Hope.”
Naomi’s daughters accepted The Judds’ Country Hall induction together, supporting one another as they read a Bible verse together.
“I’m sorry that she couldn’t hang on until today,” Ashley said of her mother.
“Though my heart is broken I will continue to sing,” Wynonna added.
