Never Fear, New Beer’s Eve is here!

New Beers Eve is celebrated all around the United States on April 6 of every year. New Beers Eve is observed on the night before the National Beer Day which falls on, wait for it, April 7th. To celebrate the end of prohibition, people gathered together outside the breweries and taverns on the before night waiting in the dark to legally purchase their beers. Since then, the night of April 6 has been recognized as New Beers Eve. On that first day, 1.5 million barrels of beer were consumed by the people, motivating the future holiday.

In 2003, the Brewer’s Association began promoting New Beers Eve as a holiday, in remembrance of all the breweries which were closed for 13 years, and the law that was enacted to help people to enjoy their most favorite drink in the history legally. It was the Cullen-Harrison Act signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on March 23rd. The law came into force on April 7, 1933, allowing the legal sale of beer in the country as long as the beer contains alcohol below 4% by volume. So this April, celebrate this glorious holiday, and raise a glass, bottle, can, or mug to relish the deliciousness that is beer.
