Altuzarra is furthering its commitment to sustainability with its Re-Crafted Collection, a capsule made using fabrics from past seasons. The one-of-a-kind pieces are spun from upcycled silk fabrics and then the fabric is cut into strips and woven together.
Joseph Altuzarra, the brand’s namesake founder and creative director, began his commitment to sustainability last year when he collaborated with Etsy for a sustainable home decor collection. Several items from the collection had a sustainable twist, including tie-dye throw pillows made with British Colombia-based seller Marika Rowe and notebooks made with designer Stephanie Lunn, which were both crafted from leftover fabric from the Altuzarra spring/summer 2016 fashion show. Now, this new fashion collection includes tops, skirts, and a bag that range in price from $395 for the top to $895 for the cardigan.
As consumers demand more sustainability, brands are responding accordingly. Altuzarra has only just initiated plans for growing his business, even in the face of the pandemic. In October, Altuzarra was added to the range of brands available on Amazon’s Luxury Stores giving access to its ready-to-wear and accessories collections via the platform. Altuzarra joined Oscar de la Renta as one of the first luxury brands to join the platform.
