WWD reports that the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has added 23 designers to its roster, bringing the total number to 483.
The new CFDA members are an impressive list of fashion luminaries, including Diego Binetti, The Love Binetti; Emily Adams Bode, Bode; Kristopher Brock, Brock Collection; Laura Vassar, Brock Collection; Beth Bugdaycay, Foundrae; Danielle Corona, Hunting Season; Jeffrey Dodd; Beckett Fogg, Area; Piotrek Panszczyk, Area; Nicola Glass, Kate Spade New York; Victor Glemaud; Batsheva Hay, Batsheva; Catherine Holstein, Khaite; Ilana Kugel, Koral; Jasmin Larian, Cult Gaia; Dion Lee; Sheryl Lowe; Michael Maccari, Perry Ellis; Mary Alice Malone, Malone Souliers; Sylvie Millstein, Hellessy; Omar Salam, Sukeina; Emily Smith, Lafayette 148, and Gladys Tamez. The CFDA also welcomed back Kevan Hall to its membership.
The new members were ratified by the board of directors and elected during the biannual membership meeting at the Public Hotel in New York on Oct. 10. Tom Ford, the new chairman of the CFDA (he succeeded Diane von Furstenberg in June) chaired the board meeting and attended the membership meeting. “The group includes emerging, established and seasoned designers from across the country and around the globe — with the common thread of great talent and passion for what they do so well,” said Lisa Smilor, executive vice president of the CFDA, said of the new members.
Candidates for membership must be actively engaged in creative fashion design for at least three years, in the fields of apparel, accessories, jewelry or related products including theatrical costumes and textile design. New members are admitted once a year after submitting an application package and letters of recommendation to the CFDA, as well as an online presentation that represents the designer’s body of professional work. Membership is open to Americans designing in the U.S. or abroad or international designers whose businesses have been based in the U.S. for at least three years.
