What were the Top Pop LPs of 1963? Allow us to tell you…
.) Bob Dylan – ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan
.) The Beatles- ‘The Beatles’
.) With The Beatles – ‘Please Please Me’
.) The Beach Boys – ‘Surfin’ U.S.A.’
.) Peter, Paul and Mary – ‘Moving’
.) Johnny Cash – ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears’
.) James Brown – ‘Live’ at The Apollo’
.) Sam Cooke – ‘Night Beat’
.) The Beach Boys – ‘Little Deuce Coupe’
Conclusions: Notice the look and feel of popular music, given the status quo of Folk Bob Dylan and Peter Paul and Mary. The Beach Boys and Beatles were beginning to have success on the radio and in record sales, but it would be until February of 1964 that the Ed Sullivan Show Beatles appearance would everything change for good. Here’s an odd twist of fate; only one of these stars is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – Peter, Paul and Mary.
