White jeans present a style conundrum for most of us. It’s not because figure-flattering white jeans don’t exist. They’re out there, but it takes a while to arrive upon the right ones — the pair that make you feel confident, are light enough to wear through the hottest Summer months, but look just as good styled with boots come Fall.
While everyone prefers the details and silhouettes that work best for them personally, six editors at Pop Sugar, all who have different body types and look for all sorts of qualities in jeans, recently pulled out their favorite guilty white jean pleasure, showed them off and extolled their style virtues. Read on and see what you think!
Agolde ’90s Fit Jeans
“I had all but decided that the whole white-jeans thing just wasn’t my thing, when I took a chance on Agolde’s ’90s Fit Denim. It makes sense — I already love the fit of Agolde jeans — but it’s not just the higher rise and relaxed fit through the thighs that make these work — they are also the right weight (read: not see-through or clingy) and have the perfect distressing that I suspect only gets better with wear.” — Hannah McKinley, content director, Fashion and Shop.
Cotton Citizen Vickie Jean
“My relationship with white jeans didn’t exist until I found this Cotton Citizen silhouette. That is, unless you count a relationship as someone (or something) that disappoints you over and over again. I love showing off my curves, but tight white jeans that are just too thin are not what I consider forgiving, and I was constantly feeling self-conscious in light-colored skinnies. Enter the Vickie Jean, with a front slit and plenty of room. These are baggy but not overbearing, and you can still make out my shape. I love that they drag on the ground with a pair of slides. They help me achieve surfer vibes that feel very now.” — Sarah Wasilak, editor, Fashion.
Apiece Apart Merida Pants
“I love anything white and wide-leg, so these Apiece Apart pants were a no-brainer for me — I actually wear them year-round! Not only are they super flattering for my petite frame, but I actually find them to be so much easier to style than my skinny-leg counterparts — yes, even in a white color! This is a go-to Summer outfit formula for me: these pants, a romantic blouse, a denim jacket, and ankle-tie sandals or espadrilles. I also love wearing the pants with a linen blazer and tan leather accessories.” — Stephanie Nguyen, editor, Native Content.
Madewell High-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans
“I got these white Madewell jeans a few years ago, and I love them! The high-rise button fly is my favorite flattering denim style, and they have just a smidge of stretch and the perfect thickness so they aren’t too see-through or too stiff. Since the exact style I got is sold out, these petite pants are super similar.” — Tara Block, content director.
Cotton Citizen Boyfriend Jean
“I actually hadn’t worn white jeans since about fifth grade. I’m a total klutz, and TBH, I didn’t think they were that flattering until I spotted these Cotton Citizen jeans. I was drawn to them because of their loose, wide-leg silhouette and the fact that there was an extralong belt attached. These felt more street style than middle school, which was enough to convert me. I can pair them with everything from a neon Acne sweatshirt and Converse Golf le Fleurs (pictured) to a plain tucked-in tee with mules” — Nikita Ramsinghani, associate editor, Fashion.
Warp + Weft ICN Wide Leg
“I’ve had an up-and-down relationship with white jeans. There have been stretchy styles I loved that I later saw pictures of myself in and realized they were not so flattering and more rigid cuts I’ve tried that never quite felt comfortable enough to wear more than once or twice. Finally, I came across this pair by Warp + Weft, which has an amazing size range for all body types. I found that this wide-leg silhouette flatters my shape well. It has stretch, but only enough to feel comfortable while being supportive enough up top where I need it. I’ll definitely be wearing these all Summer long with everything from white tops to bohemian blouses and simple tank tops.” — Laura Lajiness, senior editor, Fashion.
Whichever style speaks to you, take the time to think about your favorite pants, consider 2019’s biggest trends and popular cuts, then try out the denim ahead and add a fresh white design to your rotation.
