Home Improvement icon Bob Vila says that September is the time to catch up on Home Maintenance. It’s a time to finish projects begun in the summer that were never completed. And it’s an excellent opportunity to see what can be improved, replaced, or repaired while the weather is still nice enough for outdoor projects.
One of the wonderful ways you can add some pizazz to your yard, especially now, when summer blooms are fading, is to boost your garden’s color sense with seasonal flowers. Mums/Chrysanthemums are a popular choice, and for good reason—they are abundant, easy to care for, and colorful. But consider some other “stars” of the fall landscape, like:
Black Eyed Susans
Leedplant
Ornamental Kale
Firethorn (Pyracantha)
Helenium
‘Autumn Joy’ Sedum
Toad Lily
Aster
Sweet Autumn Clematis
Virginia Sweetspire
Burning Bush
Chinese Lantern
Lamb’s Ear
Pansies
‘Winterthur’ Viburnum
American Witch Hazel
Japanese Maple Tree
Mexican Feathergrass
American Beautyberry
Snapdragons
Leadplants
Strawflowers
Coral Bells
Anise Hysop
Oakleaf Hydrangea
Fire & Ice Hydrangea
Ornamental Peppers
Arkansas Blue Star
Black-Eyed Susan
Red Twig Dogwood
River Birch Tree
