20th Century Fox has pulled the plug on plans for a biopic about Patty Hearst, derived from the Jeffrey Toobin book “American Heiress” because of Patty’s objections to the way she was going to be portrayed. More importantly, Patty’s influential California family did not approve, raising the temperature for sure. CNN however, still has plans to move forward with its series about Patty in the coming weeks.
The life of Patty Hearst makes for one of the most interesting stories of all time. Patty grew up the granddaughter and heiress of a William Randolph Hearst, America’s most influential and wealthiest families of the 1900s.
In 1974 Patty was kidnapped by the radical Symbionese Liberation Army, but would eventually join them, helping the gang rob banks and commit other violent crimes.
She was captured and convicted of her crimes, but her sentence was commuted by then-President Carter.
