2025 CMT Music Awards Canceled Amid Paramount Global and Skydance Media Merger

The 2025 CMT Music Awards, scheduled to be held in Austin, Texas, have been canceled due to Paramount Global’s merger with Skydance Media. This decision comes after the awards show successfully took place in Austin for the past two years, marking a significant shift from its traditional Nashville setting.

The cancellation is part of a broader strategy by Paramount Global to reevaluate and optimize its event offerings in light of the recent merger. In a memo to staff, Paramount executive Bruce Gillmer stated that the company aims to “reimagine and optimize [their] events slate going forward.” This move also affects other events, including the MTV Europe Music Awards and the Mexican edition of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Despite these cancellations, Paramount has confirmed that flagship events such as the Video Music Awards and the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will proceed as planned.

The CMT Music Awards have been a staple in the country music industry, celebrating fan-voted favorites and featuring memorable performances. The decision to cancel the 2025 ceremony has left fans and artists alike awaiting further announcements regarding the future format and location of the event.
