2024 CMA Awards: Morgan Wallen and Post Malone Lead Nominations, Beyoncé Snubbed Despite Major Country Success

The 2024 CMA Awards have honored country music heavyweights Morgan Wallen and Post Malone with multiple nominations, but Beyoncé, despite her massive success in the genre this year, has been notably snubbed.

Wallen leads the pack with seven nominations, followed by Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson with five each. Malone and Lainey Wilson earned four nods apiece. Wilson, last year’s Entertainer of the Year, will defend her title against Wallen, Stapleton, Luke Combs, and Jelly Roll at the awards show on November 20, airing live from Nashville.

Despite topping the charts with her album Cowboy Carter and smash hit “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé was completely shut out. Her album spent four weeks atop Billboard’s country albums chart, and her single held the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for 10 weeks. Both also dominated the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and 200 charts, but her groundbreaking achievements weren’t enough to secure CMA nominations.

Meanwhile, Malone’s I Had Some Help collaboration with Wallen earned four nominations, including Single and Song of the Year. Rising star Shaboozey, featured on Beyoncé’s album, also landed his first CMA nominations, including Best New Artist and Single of the Year.

The CMA snub of Beyoncé echoes past tensions in country music, with her performance at the 2016 CMAs facing backlash. Despite this, her album has reignited conversations about the role of Black artists in country music.
