1984 – One Rocking Year

In 1984 President Reagan won a landslide re-election with a 59% majority of the vote, while the Cosby Show made its debut on NBC. One of the greatest humanitarian efforts took place in 1984, created by Bob Geldof Band Aid called “Do They Know It’s Christmas.” How about the best rock songs from this time? Well, here they are….

Van Halen “Jump”
Sammy Hagar “I Can’t Drive 55”
Twister Sister “We’re Not Gonna Take It”
Huey Lewis and the News “I Want a New Drug”
Scorpions “Rock You Like a Hurricane”
Bruce Springsteen “Dancing In The Dark”
ZZ Top “Legs”
Yes “Owner Of A Lonely Heart”
Huey Lewis and the News “The Heart of Rock and Roll”

Conclusions: To say 1984 was a good year for rock would be an understatement. Nearly all these artists on this list are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and still touring today! How good was this year? Every song by these artists was a million seller and could be considered signature songs for these artists.
