Opening this week were the films ‘Fifty Shades Freed,’ ‘Peter Rabbit,’ battling the heavyweights ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Jumanji,’ ‘Winchester,’ and others. As the box office numbers were reported, it was clear that the world was eager for a steamy romance this past weekend. ‘Fifty Shades of Freed’ dominated the weekend box office with nearly $40 million in tickets sold, stirring the ‘Fifty’ franchise to nearly $1 billion dollars in international sales.
‘Peter Rabbit’ came in second this weekend, while Clint Eastwood’s The ‘15:17 to Paris’ moved into third place over the weekend, followed up by ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘The Greatest Showman’ rounding out the top five.
We have some sad news to report as ‘House of Cards’ star Reg E. Cathey died this weekend at the age of 59. The well-known character actor portrayed Freddy, owner of a local BBQ restaurant on the show, earning him an Emmy for ‘Outstanding Guest’ in 2015.
Finally, we were reminded over the weekend that Omarosa is all about drama, as she fell ill during a live feed of the television reality show ‘Big Brother’ then taken to the hospital. No word on how she’s doing.
