The best rock songs were not always created by men, often times the best rock songs came from the ladies.
“Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar became an anthem to heartbreak, and stayed on the charts for a long time. The hook and clean guitar licks proved it was a solid tune.
“I Love Rock and Roll” by Joan Jett did become a rock anthem for all rockers, played in Holiday Inn’s across the US and covered by every aspiring band.
“Edge of Seventeen” and “Stand Back” from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Nicks proved she was a driving force behind the success of Fleetwood Mac, elevating her to super status as a solo performer.
“All I Want to Do is Have Some Fun” is just one of the tunes from Cheryl Crow, loved by music fans from multiple genres’. Not bad for a girl that once played behind Michael Jackson.
“Walk Like an Egyptian” by the Bangles, “Vacation” from the Go Go’s, and “Back to Black” from Amy Winehouse” are fine examples of women who could write a rock song everyone would love.
