Women and War in Hollywood

Women have always supported their men in times of war, recently actually fought in combat, and in Hollywood, women have portrayed powerful strong characters.

Jane Fonda in ‘Coming Home’ proved that love has no boundaries, and ‘A Few Good Men’ and ‘G.I. Jane’ starred Demi Moore in significant roles in these military based movies.

Sally Field in Lincoln, Joely Richardson in the Patriot, Vivien Leigh and Olivia de Havilland in ‘Gone With the Wind.’ African American stars Hattie McDaniel and Butterfly McQueen also broke the color barrier in ‘Gone With the Wind,’ while Jessica Chastain was the main character in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ the story of hunting down OBL.

Honorable mentions go out to Goldie Hawn in the comedy, ‘Private Benjamin,’ Meg Ryan – ‘Courage Under Fire,’ Rachel Weisz who carried the film ‘Enemy at the Gates,’ Denise Richards in ‘Starship Troopers,’ and Jennifer Garner as the smart operative in ‘The Kingdom.’
