Watch Billy Joel Cover ‘People Get Ready’ in Tribute to Jeff Beck

Billy Joel just gave tribute to Jeff Beck at his concert in New York City with a cover of “People Get Ready.” The track was originally written by Curtis Mayfield, but was later recorded by beck along with Rod Stewart. It was released on Beck’s 1985 album, Flash, and eventually became a staple to his set lists.

Joel stated to the crowd at Madison Square Garden on Friday, “He was a musician that I always loved. He was the best, I couldn’t let the night go by without doing something by Jeff.”

Footage from the concert can be found on social media. Beck passed away earlier this week at the age of 78 years old after battling with bacterial meningitis. Meanwhile, Joel shared on Twitter once hearing the news, “He was one of my heroes, I was fortunate to meet him recently and I’m very grateful now that I was able to tell him how much I admired his musical skill. This is the end of an era.”
