The David Lee Roth Version of Van Halen

One of the best bands from the 80s was Van Halen; they had so many hits it was hard to listen to the radio back then and NOT hear one of their songs. Vah Halen began with lead singer David Lee Roth, then reaching new heights with Sammy Hagar. There are two camps of Van Halen fans – those that loved the David Lee Roth version of Van Halen, and those that were crazy about the Sammy led band. Here’s our closer look at David…

David Lee Roth was born into an orthodox Jewish home in Bloomington, Indiana in 1954. You might say he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth as his father was a millionaire eye doctor. David’s family eventually moved to Pasadena, California while he was still in his teens.

David sang lead for a band called Red Ball Jets, and Eddie Van Halen would often rent the Red Ball Jets sound equipment for their own gigs – thus the two knew each other quite well.

David had had two stints with the band from its original start 1972 to 1985, then 1996 to 2001. David has had a fairly successful solo career.
