It seemed too good to be true, a wildflower seed mat for $6.99 from Walter Drake. Sure, it meant that I’d just unroll it into place, with no digging, preparing, spacing and all that, and you just weren’t sure if it would take root. But after all was said and done… it gave you at least three seasons of crazy beautiful flowers that made me smile.
Never underestimate the easy and cheap hack that actually works when updating your backyard. Sometimes the best course is to fake it—literally.
Mock rocks (also known as faux rocks) have come a long way in the looks department and go a long way in improving the looks of your backyard by covering unsightly pipes, utility covers and other equipment.
Another much- improved artificial product is synthetic grass. If you don’t want to commit a whole lawn area, smaller strips can be used as a potty area for dogs (with proper cleanup), a doormat or even outdoor pillow coverings.
The point is, refreshing your back yard doesn’t have to be pricey. And you certainly don’t have to hire a landscape designer, either. Do it yourself! Fake it till you make it!
