University of Iowa Women’s Golfer Kaitlyn Hanna, Empowers Young Girls

According to hawkeyesports.com, when Kaitlyn Hanna began golfing, often times it seemed as if she was the only girl out there competing in a boys’ sport. That is why in her Freshman year in high school she decided to try and make a change to the game she loves. Hanna is quoted in saying, “Growing up, I was usually the only girl golfer at golf camps amongst boys, I wanted to give a platform for girls with a girls-only camp to get to play and learn the game of golf around other girl golfers and have fun.” That is when she decided to start a golf camp for young girls called the Warriors Girls Golf Camp back in 2018. The camp is ran with assistance from Hanna’s High School golf team and employees where the camp is held. This year the camp was held at Eagle Hills Golf Course in Papillion, Nebraska. For Hanna, the camp she created is her opportunity to empower young girls and help them experience the world of golf, that many girls didn’t get a chance to when she was younger. Despite attending Iowa City next year, Hanna is determined to keep the camp going and continuing to inspire young girls.
