Ty Herndon on Addiction and How Coming Out Saved Him

According to Ty Herndon, his new album “Jacob” was named after the biblical character who attempts to receive Gods blessing via doing everything that he can. “He took his biggest challenge and made it his biggest blessing,”  Herndon stated to People magazine. The album is likely referring to  Herndon’s troubled past, at his peak of just 33 years old the singer was arrested for indecent exposure in Dallas, Texas. It turned out that on the day this occurred the star had been up for days on crystal meth as he struggled with the pressures of stardom, drug addiction, and his own sexuality. At the time of his arrest, Herndon felt a sense of relief, stating that “‘I’m dead. But at least I’ll be out of this hell, just as my dreams are coming true.'” He paused for a moment before continuing speaking,  “I was so tired of all the secrets. ”

Herndon says he’s finally ready to reveal them all. He wants to make a comeback in Nashville. Another one. “It’s possible,” When speaking of his addiction the artist said that he tried it for the first time at the age of 20. “It was given to me. I ended up not being in control of anything,” he says. The first night he tried it, things took a harrowing turn: “There was some sexual abuse that happened, that were against my will.” He stated to People Magazine. However now that the star is sober, and accepting of his sexuality he is ready to release his new album “Jacob” and put his past behind him. With 18 months of sobriety, the artist feels joyful and spiritual again, stating that singing is starting to feel a lot like when he was younger again.
