1959 – Buddy Holly (22), Ritchie Valens (17), the Big Bopper (28) and pilot Roger Peterson died in a plane crash in Iowa.

1960 – The record label Reprise Records is formed by Frank Sinatra.

1961 – In New York, Bob Dylan made his first recording, taping “San Francisco Bay Blues”.

1977 – Elton John resumed live performing in Sweden 15 months after he had announced that he would not perform live anymore.

1978 – “Dead Man’s Curve” premiered on ABC-TV.
