The Top Tunes from 1977

Little did we know that when the new movie ‘Star Wars’ would hit the theaters in 1977, it would change the movie world forever. On TV, the miniseries ‘Roots’ draws an audience of 130 million, and the Grammy Record of the Year would be “This Masquerade,” by George Benson. What were the top rock tunes of 1977?

The Eagles and “Hotel California”
Lynyrd Skynyrd with “Free Bird (Live)”
Aerosmith and their great song “Walk This Way”
Fleetwood Mac with “Dreams”
The Steve Miller Band and their hit “Fly Like an Eagle”
Legendary Bob Seger with his signature song “Night Moves”
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band covering Bruce Springsteen with “Blinded By the Light”
Van Morrison and “Moondance”
Again Fleetwood Mac with “Don’t Stop”
Finally, Foreigner and their super smash “Feels Like the First Time”

Observations: 1977 was an incredible year for rock, as the country was beginning to pull itself out of a disco hangover. Believe it or not, only Manfred Mann and Foreigner are not in the Hall of Fame in Cleveland! Manfred Mann covered Bruce Springsteen. Years later RUN -DMC would cover Aerosmith on the same song, with both bands in the video.
