Playwright Neil Simon died a few days ago in New York at the age of 91, and it’s important to note just how significant the loss is. Neil will be remembered for his Broadway productions “Barefoot in the Park,” “The Sunshine Boys,” “The Odd Couple,” “Brighton Beach; in the 60s he had four plays on Broadway at the same time.
Neil wrote more than 30 plays, earning 16 Tony nominations yielding three wins, four Oscar nominations, the Mark Twain Prize, a Pulitzer Prize, and more honors than time would allow. Personal, Neil was married four times, once to actress Marcia Mason (The Goodbye Girl) and was the father of three.
