The Jacksons, Jody Watley, Slick Rick to be Honored

We’re all familiar with the Grammys, People Choice, Billboard, and Brit awards. One of the most distinguished honors that’s lesser know is the Black Music Honors, the annual two-hour TV special designed to feature and honor iconic African American who have influenced and made significant contributions to African American music. This year’s show will be taped on August 18 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.

The legendary family music group the Jacksons will be honored for their decades of contributions; they will also perform on the show. A few accolades being handed out that night will be the ‘Crossover Music Icon Award’ to the lovely Jody Watley, the ‘Legends Award’ to Oleta Adams, and ‘Hip-Hop/Rap Music Icon Award’ to Slick Rick.

Scheduled to perform are SWV, Sevyn Streeter and Karen Clark Sheard, Marvin Winans, and Kid ‘N Play. A portion of the money raised will be donated to the National Museum of African American Music, opening in Nashville in 2019.
