Aretha Franklin was laid to rest in the Motor City last Thursday, and one of the highlights was the performance by the Four Top’s performance at Detroit’s Chene Park Amphitheatre. The group sang a new song written and dedicated to Aretha called “Sister Ree” which was warmly received by the audience.
The song “Sister Ree” was written by Four Tops member Ronnie McNeir in 2017, and sent to Aretha to cheer her up after news of her poor health hit the press. Aretha called the Four Tops and told them that she loved the song so much, she was planning on featuring it in her biopic starring Jennifer Hudson.
Ronnie McNeir plans to drop the video of “Sister Ree” later this week. The song will also be released this week.
